How To Lose 50 Pounds

Just last week I was having an in depth conversation with a client and dear friend.  She was feeling frustrated about her desperation to lose weight and down on herself for letting her body get into “this shape” as she put it.

She asked me, with tears in her eyes, “How on earth do I lose 50 pounds?”  She was crying because the desire, that need to lose that weight was so strong within her that it took over her emotions

My reply, “You really want to know how to lose weight? One pound at a time girl, one pound at a time.”

It doesn’t matter if you have the desire to lose 25 or 75 pounds, the desire to lose weight is strong in both cases. Its all consuming and often can feel too overwhelming.  Looking at the entire 50 pounds as a whole makes us feel discouraged and wanting to give up.

But you cant’ give up.

And you can’t look at it like 50 pounds.  Its too much.  Its too consuming. Its too large.

Change your viewpoint and you will change your outcome. 

Instead of looking at it like an entire 50 pounds, look at it like its 1 pound.  Make a few small changes this week in your diet and your activity level and that scale will move down 1 lb.  Then just repeat that process again next week. And the week after.

Pretty soon that 50 lbs becomes 45, then 40, then 30 and so on.

It doesn’t have to be that hard, and it doesn’t have to be immediate.  Give yourself a break, stop getting down on yourself  and just start taking small steps toward the goal.

You don’t have to spend hours in the gym every day.  30-45 minutes a day is sufficient for weight loss.

You don’t have to cut out every single food that you love, just make a few small, manageable modification to your eating and you’ll see a difference.
